Ingredients:

1 lb phyllo dough

1 1/2 cups salted butter, melted (olive oil)

3 cups chopped nuts (walnuts, pistachios, or a combination) (trail mix)

1/2 cup granulated sugar (maple syrup/dates)

1 tbsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp ground cloves

1 cup honey (maple syrup, dates)

1/2 cup water

1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large bowl, mix together the chopped nuts, sugar, cinnamon, and cloves.

Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with some of the melted butter.

Unroll the phyllo dough and cut it to fit the size of the baking dish.

Layer 10 sheets of phyllo dough in the baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.

Spread 1/3 of the nut mixture over the phyllo dough.

Layer 6 more sheets of phyllo dough on top of the nut mixture, brushing each sheet with melted butter.

Add another 1/3 of the nut mixture, then layer 6 more sheets of phyllo dough on top, brushing each sheet with melted butter.

Add the remaining nut mixture, then layer the remaining sheets of phyllo dough on top, brushing each sheet with melted butter.

Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.

Bake the baklava for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown.

While the baklava is baking, make the syrup by combining the honey, water, and lemon juice in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 5-10 minutes, or until the syrup has thickened slightly.

Pour the hot syrup over the hot baklava, making sure to cover each piece evenly.

Let the baklava cool to room temperature, then serve.

Now that you've made this delicious baklava, you can sit back and enjoy the sweet and nutty flavors. This recipe is easy to make and is perfect for any occasion, from dinner parties to family gatherings. You can even customize the recipe by using different types of nuts or substituting the honey with maple syrup or dates.
